Film Never Dies

I shoot film because it makes me wait. Thirty-six frames, no preview, no second take. You get one shot at whatever's in front of you and then you move on. What ends up here is whatever earned its place: buildings I kept coming back to, people skating, light doing something on a wall I couldn't have planned. Not all of it is deliberate. Some frames I set up and some I just happened to be standing there for. The second kind is usually better. The camera was also a way of being in a room without being the subject. I've always seen people more clearly from the outside. Standing behind the lens let me look at people the way I actually saw them, instead of performing some version of myself for them.
